A Daughter’s Cry for Miracle…

Day 3, 2:11am, still in the hospital, two days in a row, I’ve been mom’s care taker in the hospital.  I must say that it’s not an easy task, not because its physically exhausting but more than anything it’s the emotional battle that a daughter has to face as she sees her mom suffering and slowly deteriorating.

Mom has advanced / stage 4 cancer, her breast cancer has already metastasized on her lungs, we all didn’t realize that her chronic cough and breathlessness was a symptom of her lung condition, we were just alarmed when it showed in her x-ray that she has fluids in her lungs. Initially, she was insisting that the doctor said that it was just a mild pneumonia but I was doubtful, thought that she might have not divulged her medical history to her doctors.  Mom is very independent, she would rather ask her friends to accompany her than ask us, sadly and admittedly, I also was very insensitive.

Thursday 3am,  mom told me about her x-ray result, I immediately made my research on the internet and ask my friend who works as a nurse in Ireland, thank God for technology, I was able to speak to her through the internet, thank God for the time difference cause she was still awake when I tried to message her, told her about mom’s condition and what I read on the net, sadly, she confirmed it – Pleural Effusion.

Thursday, my brothers and sis in laws coordinated with each other and decided to bring mom to a hospital near my brother’s house; Thursday night, my brother fetched her from our Manila home and Friday morning she was brought to the hospital, went through all the necessary tests and the fluid draining also started.  At 11:28am, I received a text message regarding mom’s CT Scan result and boom!! I felt the world has fallen flat on my face, I cried profusely, I didn’t immediately went to the hospital for I didn’t know how to put up an “okay” face to my mom, I felt my world has stopped, I was confused, I wanted to immediately drive myself to mom but my hands were all shaking, actually my whole body was at the same time I wanted to speak to my dad and convince him to finally end their 11 year rift. I wanted to pray but I don’t know what to say, I do not want to ask the why question for I know I do not have the right to do that until I reach to a point that I was begging on the Lord for a miracle…I also asked the Lord to give me the strength to speak to my dad but instead of asking for wisdom, I asked Him to speak through me instead, until God gave me the opportunity to speak to dad….I saw the concern in his eyes but sadly, he chose to keep his pride.  I was really hurt but I just lift his heart in God’s hands, as far as I am concerned, I did my part as a daughter, I knew I did what God wanted me to do and I can no longer do anything beyond that…All is in God’s hands now…..

Being a child of a terminally ill cancer patient is something that I will never wish to happen even to the people who have hurt me the most. During the early stages mom’s cancer, I used to think that those who have money has better advantage but now even if we do not have sufficient funds for possible treatments that could possibly help extend her life, I realized that whether a person is rich or poor, it doesn’t matter anymore, the pain and suffering both the patient and its love-ones will all be just the same, the suffering when the disease came to its advance stage and when the patient is at a certain age where chemo might just bring more devastation to than enjoy the remaining days of the patient’s life.

I will be getting married on August 4, for months I’ve been praying for a family miracle, that God would finally answer my prayer for years with regards to our family predicament then this came…..

I knew I have no right to question the Lord, that’s why I chose not to question Him instead I asked Him to help me trust Him despite being in a situation where no one can really be in control but Him, where I can never be certain on what to expect but just be solely dependent and entrust everything on the Lord, the sovereign God and the God of the Already…

Saturday night while mom was watching TV, in between commercials, I was sharing the gospel of salvation to her, we were happily discussing about God’s love to us and by the grace of God, mom agreed to pray the acceptance prayer, she invited the Lord Jesus to be the Lord and Saviour of her life.  I knew it was God who orchestrated that moment, it was God’s way of telling me “Rhycel, I hear your hearts’ prayer”.  As I remind myself of Romans 8:28 and Jeremiah 29:11, I realized that this journey is not just about mom but God has a plan for us all; as for me, I realized that God is in fact answering my prayer on wanting to be a good daughter and be able to whole heartedly honor my parents, I also now truly appreciate why in years the Lord didn’t bless me with another corporate job or a business that would really occupy most of my time, for I pray that if the time comes that one of us has to go, I do not want to have any have anything left unsaid, any unfinished business or regret things that I wanted to do or say but failed to do so because I didn’t had the time or made the wrong choice of priority.

I know that God is moving in our lives now in a very mysterious way….it’s just sooooooo overwhelming, never mind the physical exhaustion but its too emotionally and mentally draining. I know I should not fear for God already gave me an assurance that whatever happens mom will be with Him but as my mom’s child, I still can’t help but be emotional especially at times that I realize that anytime we could loose her.

To whoever will be reading this blog, I would like to shamelessly request to please help us pray for the following:

For Mom:

Supernatural healing for her cancer, may God miraculously take-away all the cancer cells in her body, may God allow mom to experience God and witness His loving mercy and grace, may God comfort her when she learns about her real health condition (the doctor told her already without using the C word but it seems either she’s on denial or she refused to understand it, but she was wondering how come her cough, fatigue and breathlessness is not improving), may she experience love, joy and peace before she leaves earth, may God allow her to witness my wedding on August 4 (her friend said that mom’s dream is to see me get married) and when its time for her to go, please pray that she won’t suffer anymore and may she leave earth without any unfinished business, may she not leave anything unsaid or undone.

For our Family:

Please pray for comfort and peace that transcends all understanding, provision for all of mom’s medical needs, wisdom on how to handle the situation, may we always choose what the Lord wants us to choose and not what is convenient or what we think is just the best, let go of all pride and have the God’s grace and the humility to settle all disputes, learn how to forgive each other,  to be more patient and loving to each other esp to mom, strength and courage to face each day and our fears, good health as we take care of our mom and for us to learn to trust and be more dependent on the Lord.

May the Lord give us the opportunity as a family to experience on how to be a family again. May the Lord Jesus Christ be always with us in this journey and help us to trust him on the uncertainties that each tomorrow brings.  It is truly, truly, truly overwhelming, but God is way much bigger than all the problems in the world, combined….Lord, please allow my family to realize that…

Mom is sleeping as I write this blog, I can’t help but shed a tear as I see her effort to breath while she sleeps (she was drugged to sleep that’s why she was able to fall asleep).

Thank you very much for your prayers and support,  I appreciate all your messages and prayers more than you will ever know....

BEST GIFT

About a year and a month ago mom was diagnosed with stage 3 (bordering to 4, according to the doctor) breast cancer, her right breast was taken out and was advised to go through chemo and radiation which would cost our family almost a million. It was almost about a month and a half month before Christmas then, it was so painful, the kind of pain that no one can do anything about; I remember my brother even told me then to already prepare myself for soon mom might bid the world goodbye….My wide dark glasses covered up the tears that was about to secretly fall.

It was the most painful Christmas for me, I felt so lost, never in my life that I had to face such pain….excruciating pain. I questioned God, why? That moment, I enumerated one by one to God all pain that He allowed me to go through –- can’t find work, no projects, got ONDOYed, unpaid bills, credit card collector harassment, living with a father who’s daily routine includes getting drunk and go on rage to lash out all his hang-ups on me and to my half-brother; With all such craziness happening I asked God “ano pa? ano pa ba?” I questioned God, I envied those people that I know whom I thought was being blessed in spite of their disobedience and blindness of God. Admittedly, for a time I isolated myself to almost everyone (including family)…all I wanted was to be alone or just to be with people whom I can to talk to about God and not the world.
It was a struggle to face mom at that time; every interaction was a tough act. I have to appear strong in spite of my inner struggles. I tried to be as normal, where normalcy in the family is defined as non-demonstrative, even if deep inside my heart was breaking to death and all I wanted to tell mom how much I love her dearly.

I am blessed to be surrounded with godly encouraging friends; friends who patiently listened to my cries, friends who encouraged me to have more faith and just trust God’s plan, friends who prayed not only for me but for my mom as well and for friends who always reminded me to always believe in the power of prayer during those times that I was in doubt, were more questions are found than answers and at the time when I was so tempted to give-up my faith.
2010 came, lot of things happened; some good, some bad. But all throughout the year by heart I learned to even have more faith even if I don’t see anything nor have anything to hold on to, even if tomorrow seems to be so black then, I just trusted God’s character, promises and faithfulness.

Last night, December 16, our d-groups’ Christmas party, during the evangelical message of our leader, he asked “what is the greatest gift you think have you ever received?” I got teary eyed, it reminded me how much God truly loves me, how blessed I am, for sometimes I forget the graces that He blessed me with because I sometimes tend to focus too much on the disturbances that the enemy is trying to create….shame on me.

God has given me and my family so much grace, things that I/we do not and will never deserve – our daily bread, provision for our monthly bills and the things that we need, work projects, Adrian, restoration of Diego, my brothers and sisters in Christ, great godly friends / acquaintances, my family, our good health….I do not have a perfect life but by God’s grace, He blessed me with everything that we need, He made me understand and appreciate by heart the simple and yet most important things in life through the lessons that I had to go through from 2008-2010. God truly disciplines those He love, to make them the kind of person that He wants them to be for His glory.

2011 is fast approaching and I am looking forward to what God has planned for me, I will be facing Christmas and the new year with smile and confidence for God is already one by one answering my prayers.
You know what’s the best gift I’ve received this Christmas?

MOM IS CANCER FREE.
Thank you very much Lord!!!!! All the praise, honor and glory are yours……

Note: Thank you so much for all your love, support and most especially prayers. Mom, didn’t go through any chemo and radiation though she may still have her maintenance medication but at least the doctor has already cleared her. God used my mom's cancer for me to fully understand what grace truly, truly means; Mom is a living example of God’s mercy and grace. Please continue to include my mom in your prayer, may her cancer won't recur, please pray for our family's salvation, reconcillation and good health as well. Kung gusto nyo sama nyo na rin yung GB ko ; ) hehehe
May God truly bless each and every one of you. My mom's story is a testimony that God truly listens, just be patiently obedient and never give-up on Him even if everything seems to be so dark and gray.

Have a very Merry CHRISTmas and a blessed 2011!!!! I love you all! I LOVE YOU LORD!!!!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!!!!!!

MOM

Deuteronomy 5:16

"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Growing up with my mom seems to be very challenging for me, 80 to 90% of my memory about her were those times where I am being physically and verbally abused whenever she’s mad about something that I did. I’m sure mom did a lot of things for me but funny cause the only heartfelt memory I had about her was the time that she fixed the collar of my uniform before I left home for school, I was like in grade 7 or 8 then. I never understood her, all I thought was she was always after me, her love language of discipline bruised my heart and soul more than my physical body, so much that it affected my behavior ‘til I became an adult without me realizing it. I felt unloved and unaccepted by the only mom that I knew.

My life had so much up and downs in search for the love that I thought I never had but when I met God, He revealed to me so much things that I’ve never seen nor realized and one of which was my mom’s love for me and how much I truly, truly love her. Sadly, I realized it in a painful way when time seems to be running out…

I received a news the other night that mom seemed to have lost her appetite and that she has a fever, it honestly brought a lot of fear in me for I am afraid that her cancer might already reached its worst stage. Mom has stage 3 breast cancer, one breast was removed last November 2009 but no further treatment was given to her for we cannot afford the chemo and radiation treatments plus the fact that we are all afraid that she might expire earlier than it should be. It’s been almost 8 months since then and I thank God for His grace that He kept mom alive and strong but in spite of it all I know that fear is just hiding in the core of my heart.

I wrote a letter for mom last night and I intend to give it this weekend, I poured my whole heart into it, for the first time I had to courage to tell her my vulnerability. I asked for forgiveness, for all my shortcomings and disobedience and for the times that I hurt her, I said sorry for not telling her face to face how much I truly love her. I can’t recall if there was a time that I actually told her how thankful I am to her for adopting me, for caring for me, for loving me and for treating me like her own. God made me realized that there may be a lot of unsaid sacrifices and uncried tears but mom chose to just be silent about it. I thank God for opening my eyes to what mom did and continuously doing for me, there may be several irritation and misunderstandings from the past and from time to time but the fact still remain that it all rooted because she loves me.

Lord, please give my mom and me more time to have a godly relationship. I know in the past 8 months I somehow remained to be the person that I was, a little tamed and better but somehow distant out of so much fear, fear of loosing her….Lord, I am deeply sorry!!! Please help me to have the boldness and the courage to show her how much I truly, truly love her, how much I cherish her and how much I truly care for her; Lord, at times that the enemy is trying to tear our relationship apart, please protect us and allow us to see each other through your eyes, let no disrespect exist at all cost no matter how painful it may become, let your love bridge us to have better understanding & compassion, help me not to dishonor my parents even at times of pain. Lord, please, allow our family be reconciled and have the time and opportunity to enjoy each others company as a whole family, worshipping and serving you Lord. Please make our family a living testimony that by your grace all things are possible…Lord, please comfort my heart, please heal my mom completely and please reconcile our family…Lord, I am begging for your mercy and grace, In Jesus name…

Mom, I love you so much and you may not have loved me the way I wanted but my heart knows that you have loved me and continuously loving me the best way you know how and for me that is more than enough.

Note: Please do include my mom (Natividad Marcelo) and our family in your prayer. Thank you and God bless
